DAY THIRTY-SEVEN | PERSEVERANCE

“Not that I have already obtained all of this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider that I have taken hold of it yet, but one thing I do, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:12
Persevering becomes essential to living—the only key that unlocks the door of hope. Through perseverance character is built, a strong and solid character that brings about hope.
Why keep persevering? Why continue standing against the strong currents of temptation, fear, stress and impossibilities? Because it is in the realistic arena that true character is forged out, shaped, tempered and polished. Because it is there that the life of Jesus Christ is given the maximum opportunity to be reproduced in us.
Because life is a mission, we need strength to face it, not speed to run away from it. We need what perseverance offers: willingness to accept whatever comes, determination to stand firm, and insight to see the Lord’s hand in it all—then God is glorified.
Prayer Focus:
Pray that our church will persevere with what the Lord has entrusted to us. Proverbs 11:25 says, “...he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” Claim this promise as you act upon it.
A Prayer from Lynn Phipps:
Holy, Loving God, thank you for Your faithfulness and mercy through the years on our corner of Dunwoody. Guide us in Your Holy Spirit, to trust in what You have in store for us. May we faithfully and joyfully respond to the challenge before us in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
