DAY TWENTY-SIX | UNITY IN THE CHURCH

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit...”
Ephesians 4:3-4
Yesterday’s verses from Psalm 133 were written on the occasion of David’s coronation as King over all of Israel. And what a struggle it was between the time he was anointed king by Samuel until the day of his coronation when he ruled over a united twelve tribes. It was David who united these warring tribes. David understood that harmony could only be achieved when they practiced the unity of their faith. These days of unity for Israel under David, and later his son Solomon, were without question the most glorious days of their history. Never has Israel possessed all of the land that God gave her except in these days.
There is a message in these verses for the church. For as the people of God united under one king in the Old Testament, so the people of God must unite today under the King of Kings. As they experienced great glory in this unification in the Old, so we will experience a greater glory in the New.
Unity is not uniformity, but can bring direction, focus, and inspiration to move forward together. Always seek ways to be harmonious.
Prayer Focus:
Pray that the Dunwoody Baptist Church of believers will experience and demonstrate true unity of purpose. Ask God how you can help our church be continually unified.
A Prayer from Bo Bowen:
Dear Heavenly Father, during this time of change, guide us to work together for our common goal. Help us to think only of Your will and not our own. Place on our hearts the desire to help out financially so that this project can go as planned. We see the need to unify our facility as the need to share Your love becomes crucial in the world today. We ask Your wisdom in all of this. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
